In the Beginning

In the beginning, there was nothing except the desire to exist. Do you know how powerful you have to be to will yourself into existence?

In the beginning, there was nothing except the desire to exist.

Do you know how powerful you have to be to will yourself into existence?

We often get hung up on the idea of what’s the correct view of things–god, the universe, etc.–but I think we all miss the point when we forget that all of this is because we just really wanted to exist.

The specifics don’t much matter when billions of us continue to ignore the one clear constant truth: anything can be created.

If anything can be created, and you were created from nothingness, surely that means that the same creative power exists in you.

Not to be elitist, but I do think it kind of sucks that social media profiteers have hijacked the term “creator” and made it to mean “person who generates free content for me while getting a fraction of the benefit, and while also being hilariously under my control and at my whims.”

Personally, I think that sucks, guys!

The most powerful shift that we as creative, spiritually tapped-in people can make is to see ourselves as a Creator. Not in that small, flat sense that the platforms benefit from, but in the sense of being able to make anything you desire a reality.

This isn’t just important in the vanity sense of thinking of yourself in a cool way. It’s important because the world outside is quite literally crumbling and so we need to fill the soil with healthy, life-giving seeds.

To be able to seed any kind of regenerative future, we have to stop playing small. We have to stop waiting for the external world to make us comfortable before we do the work we’re here to do. That won’t happen, by design.

I spend a lot of time thinking about how to wake people up to their own power. Eventually, I realized that leading by example is (annoyingly!) one of the best ways.

When I started thinking about the first season of the Channel Celestial podcast, I instantly knew it had to be about identity. Specifically, it had to be about helping Creators root into their power and true identity.

I did waffle on it for oh, about two years, but then I started getting butt railed by life circumstances because I was dragging my feet and now here we are.

In the first season of Channel Celestial, I’m spending a few weeks diving deep on creation and business from the perspective of being a steward rather than a capitalist master, what it means to be a creator in a crumbling world, and how you can work with the unseen and your own body to shift into your full power.

Season one kicks off with an unscripted, intimate show introducing this season’s theme of creative stewardship and business stewardship by talking about my own experience with stifling my own creative voice, letting unacknowledged grief keep me from living and creating, and the pressure that comes from trying to show up in a world obsessed with false certainty.

Join me as I explore:

  • Feeling stuck as a creator

  • How digital-first culture has skews our identity as creators

  • Identity as a melding of the past, present, and future self

  • The subtle but vital difference between ownership and stewardship in creative and spiritual work

  • Grief over lost timelines and how resisting it has kept me stuck

  • Letting my creator self lead when it doesn’t make sense
